The Louis Vuitton collection of nomadic objects

Louis Vuitton's Monogram canvas, which has become a French icon thanks to the international expansion of LVHM, was built around the theme of travel, from the famous trunk to the backpack. The brand wanted to pay tribute to its origins by launching a collection in 2012 created in collaboration with the world's leading designers: the"Objets Nomades" collection. Ten new objects—out of a total of 25—were presented at the Milan Furniture Fair in the heart of the Palazzo Bocconi.

The contributions are numerous and prestigious: Atelier Oï, Maarten Baas, Barber & Osgerby, the Campana Brothers, Damien Langlois-Meurinne, Nendo, Gwenaël Nicolas, Raw Edges, Patricia Urquiola, Marcel Wanders and, more recently, India Mahdavi and Tokujin Yoshioka.

Louis Vuitton is thus continuing its expansion into new luxury sectors after perfumery and jewelry, as Hermès has been doing for several decades with bro. The recipe for success remains the same: selling a high-end lifestyle based on the expertise of its famous houses. The group's French and Italian workshops, which specialize in leather, played a major role in the design of these items, executing the wishes of designers who were given considerable creative freedom: carte blanche to boost their creativity and deliver their vision of Louis Vuitton and travel.

This has resulted in some particularly original ideas, such as theCampana brothers' fully collapsible sofa, whose shape is inspired by Brazilian "bombocas" chocolates given out at weddings. It is our favorite piece from this new collection, which draws on a wide variety of influences and illustrates the designers' desire to create easily transportable and functional pieces that are suitable for travel.
