IWC launches limited edition watches in partnership with George Russell, combining sportiness and watchmaking heritage

Fine watchmaking and Formula 1 share a passionate relationship that continues to grow stronger. IWC Schaffhausen embodies this symbiosis with two new exclusive creations designed in collaboration with George Russell, driver for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas team. Far from the ostentatious clichés sometimes associated with the paddock, these timepieces feature a discreet aesthetic and cutting-edge materials, appealing to design purists and thrill seekers alike.

A stealthy aesthetic inspired by competition

This capsule collection reinterprets the iconic Pilot's Watch in two versions: an automatic version and a chronograph. Both models feature a matte black ceramic case, offering a striking contrast to the luminescent blue accents on the dial. According to IWC, this color choice is a direct reference to George Russell's helmet. This stylistic approach, which favors restraint over excess, gives the pieces a strong yet discreet visual identity, perfectly suited to both urban and sporting use.

Materials engineering and controlled proportions

In terms of size, the automatic version retains a restrained elegance with a diameter of 41 mm. The chronograph, which is more imposing by nature, has a diameter of 41.9 mm and a thickness of 15.5 mm. Beyond the dimensions, it is the architecture of the materials that appeals: a soft iron cage protects the movement, while the titanium case back is engraved with the driver's race number "63." The use of Ceratanium® for the chronograph crowns and pushers highlights the expertise of the manufacture, combining the lightness of titanium with the hardness of ceramic.

Precision engineering

Under the hood, performance is guaranteed. The automatic model is powered by the in-house caliber 32112, offering a remarkable power reserve of 120 hours. The chronograph, meanwhile, beats to the rhythm of the caliber 69380 with a power reserve of 46 hours. The integration of the renowned Pellaton winding system into these calibers ensures optimal energy efficiency, a crucial technical detail for guaranteeing long-term reliability.

Heritage and exclusivity

Although the partnership between IWC and Mercedes-AMG Petronas is long-standing, this is the first time that an edition has been specifically named after George Russell. Each watch is equipped with a blue textured rubber strap with the EasyX-CHANGE system, subtly evoking the livery of the single-seaters. Strictly limited to 1,063 pieces each, these timepieces are priced to reflect their rarity and technical sophistication (approximately AUD 14,000 and AUD 19,000 according to initial estimates). More than just a simple derivative product, this collaboration successfully balances the heritage of aviator watches with the avant-garde spirit of F1.
