HEREU is launching Segona Residència in Barcelona, a unique space that bridges the presentation of private collections with the dialogue between the personal sphere and culture. This fascinating inaugural exhibition explores the career of photographer Daniel Riera through the lens of his encounters and influences.
An architecture of intimacy
Conceived as a transitional space between an exhibition venue and an archive, Segona Residència is based on an idea of timeless elegance: unveiling private collections to better tell the story of a journey, a taste, and a unique way of inhabiting the world. Its name, which means “second home,” immediately captures the essence of the place. The ambition is not to accumulate works like a cold inventory, but to extract the affinities, serendipitous encounters, and visual affinities from them.
According to Fucking Young! magazine, this immersive format is accompanied by a specialized publication, enriched with interior photographs, an exclusive interview, and archival documents. An approach that extends the experience beyond the gallery walls, adopting the spirit of a personal notebook rather than that of a mere showcase.
Daniel Riera, mapping a visual narrative
The first edition spotlights Barcelona-based photographer Daniel Riera. His collection brings together works, images, and objects amassed over time, crystallizing his friendships, encounters, and all the references that have fueled his creative process. Far from treating them as trophies or isolated artifacts, the project envisions these pieces as an ecosystem where organic connections take precedence over the mere prestige of the signature.
Among the figures featured are Louis Fratino, David Armstrong, Yannis Tsarouchis, José Pérez Ocaña, and Margaret Modlin. Here emerge the foundational motifs of Riera’s universe: the power of the portrait, the celebration of the male body, and mythological symbolism. These images travel and forge connections across eras and contexts, always maintaining a restraint that avoids the pitfall of mere spectacle.
Barcelona, between open spaces and memory
The project is part of a deeply Barcelona-based tradition: creating a dialogue between intimate space and culture without a jarring break. The Catalan capital has always been fertile ground for hybrid practices, breaking down the boundaries between the studio, the domestic sphere, and the exhibition space. With Segona Residència, this continuity becomes a true manifesto.
The schedule is already set: a private opening is scheduled for May 7, 2026, followed by an opening to the general public on May 12. The exhibition will run through July 9. For HEREU, this initiative marks a subtle convergence of curatorial practice and editorial vision. For the visitor, it is an invitation to a carefully orchestrated journey through the universe of a creator, where silent accumulation often speaks far more eloquently than any discourse.
