It is against this backdrop of sporting fervor that The Lobb Club was born, redefining the conventions of the traditional sports club to become the new hangout for the city’s golden and creative youth.
From Mallorca to the Banks of the Chao Phraya
The adventure begins far from the hustle and bustle of Sukhumvit, in the sun-drenched lands of Mallorca. It was during a vacation in Spain that five friends, captivated by the Mediterranean lifestyle—which blends sports with uninhibited camaraderie—decided to bring this concept back home. Joined by two other partners, this group of young entrepreneurs spent many months exploring the city before setting their sights on Yan Nawa. This rapidly changing residential neighborhood in southern Bangkok now attracts executives from the business district and students from renowned international schools.
Industrial Aesthetics in the Service of the Smash
The project came to life within the walls of a former metal warehouse, transformed into a complex featuring vibrant colors and bold architecture. Under the leadership of Ruchchapa “Pung” Jaochakarasiri, an architecture graduate and co-founder, the venue blends industrial heritage with technological modernity. It features two tennis courts, a pickleball court—the sport on the rise—as well as five tennis simulators to perfect your backhand away from the tropical humidity. For the bravest players, an ice bath awaits after a workout.
Fine Dining and “Chill”: The Lobbar
At the Lobb Club, the post-match experience is just as important as the final score. Overlooking the hustle and bustle of the courts, the club’s restaurant, called the Lobbar, invites guests to recharge with gourmet fare. Far from the bland snacks found at typical sports complexes, guests can enjoy authentic and comforting Thai cuisine here. Regulars flock here to savor a spicy pad kaphrao (stir-fried beef with holy basil) or a khao khai khon, a creamy omelet served on a bed of fragrant rice.
A success story that’s just beginning
The buzz is such that securing a time slot is now a challenge. The club is attracting a new generation of players who dream of following in the footsteps of Paradorn Srichaphan, the national tennis icon. But the founders don’t plan to stop there. An adjacent building, currently vacant, is set to be converted into a wellness center soon, rounding out the offerings of this hybrid venue. Given this success, landowners are already approaching the team to replicate the concept elsewhere in the capital. In Bangkok, tennis is no longer just a sport—it’s a true way of life.
