Manifattura Mario Colombo & C. announced the sudden passing of its president, Mario Colombo, who died at the age of 71 on Monday, April 6.

The revival of a historic brand

The grandson of his namesake grandfather, who founded the company in 1923, he revived it in 2005. He had returned to lead the Colmar brand after holding other positions, including CEO of Adidas Italy. The brand has historic ties to Italian skiing. In 1974, the year the legend of the “Valanga Azzurra” (the Blue Avalanche) was born, the athletes were outfitted by Colmar. Subsequently, the company launched the Colmar Originals lifestyle label.

A visionary leader with great human qualities

“Over the course of more than 50 years in the workforce, Mario Colombo played a central role in the company’s development, distinguishing himself through his competence, vision, and dedication. Beyond his entrepreneurial commitment, he is remembered for his profound human qualities: his smile, his warmth, his kindness, and his ability to put anyone at ease in any situation—traits that have always defined him,” the statement explains.

A Secure Succession and Tributes in Monza

Mario Colombo is survived by his wife Alessandra and his sons Stefano and Francesco, the eldest of whom now represents the fourth generation within the company.

The funeral will be held on Friday, April 10, at 10:45 a.m. at the Duomo in Monza. The funeral chapel will be set up tomorrow, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the company’s headquarters in Monza.
