Seiko is celebrating its 145th anniversary with two limited-edition tribute models

To celebrate its 145th anniversary, Seiko is unveiling two new timepieces in its Presage Classic Series. This double limited edition orchestrates a subtle dialogue between traditional Japanese craftsmanship and cutting-edge watch design, marked by the unprecedented introduction of Arita porcelain in an intense cobalt blue.

With models HCC007 and HCC004, the Japanese manufacturer returns to the very essence of its Presage collection: meticulous craftsmanship, the nobility of time-honored materials, and a unique vision of the dress watch. According to Seiko, this anniversary diptych pays a heartfelt tribute to “Seiko Blue, the iconic shade that has become a true visual signature of the brand since the 1960s. (watchtime.com)

The Unparalleled Depth of Arita Porcelain

The HCC007 model immediately catches the light thanks to its cobalt blue Arita porcelain dial—a first for the Presage line with a shade of such intensity. The brand notes that the dial’s radial texture required numerous glazing trials to ensure this visual depth without altering the relief. This exceptional timepiece is the result of a collaboration with master artisan Hiroyuki Hashiguchi, who works at the workshop of Toshiaki Kawaguchi, an institution established in Arita since 1830. This timepiece features a case measuring 39.6 mm in diameter and 12.8 mm in thickness, housing the 6R51 automatic caliber, which provides a power reserve of approximately 72 hours. Featuring a double-domed sapphire crystal and a transparent case back, this edition is limited to 1,500 pieces. Its public launch in the U.S. is priced at $1,700, with availability expected in June 2026. (watchtime.com)

The Simplicity of Shironeri Silk

As a counterpoint to this display of chromatic boldness, the HCC004 model embodies understated elegance. Its immaculate dial draws inspiration from shironeri, a delicate ecru shade of silk that Seiko interprets as a subtly textured white rather than a uniform solid color. Its more modest proportions—36 mm in diameter and 12.5 mm thick—are complemented by a finely fluted bezel, adding a touch of character and depth rarely seen in this segment. (watchtime.com)

Sharing the same mechanical movement, the 6R51 caliber, this version stands out with enhanced water resistance to 100 meters, compared to 30 meters for its porcelain counterpart. Produced in a limited run of 2,500 pieces, this model will be priced at $1,000, also set to launch in June 2026. (watchtime.com)

Craftsmanship as a Manifesto

With these new releases, the Presage collection reaffirms its unique place within the Seiko lineup. While Prospex explores the boundaries of sportswear and Seiko 5 Sports makes mechanical watchmaking accessible to all, Presage stands as the undisputed showcase of Japanese artisanal crafts—from urushi to enamel, including Arita porcelain. This is a highly intelligent approach in which heritage transcends mere ornamentation to become a genuine technical and stylistic asset. (watchtime.com)

The discerning enthusiast will, however, note a subtle difference in practical use: while the HCC007 dazzles with its spectacular dial, its delicacy calls for restrained daily wear. The HCC004, on the other hand, stands out as a more versatile and undeniably timeless piece. In a watch market sometimes saturated with commemorative editions, Seiko avoids the pitfall of artificial excess by prioritizing the authenticity of materials. An approach that is as discreet as it is essential. (watchtime.com)
