Made in Italy: A Rush for the Design Tax Credit Highlights the Vitality of the Fashion Industry

The success has been as immediate as it is impressive. Within just 48 hours of the launch of the dedicated platform, the entire €60 million budget allocated to the tax credit for design and industrial aesthetics had been fully reserved. This program, refinanced by the 2026 Budget Law, aims to boost creativity and manufacturing expertise among Italian companies. According to data released by the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy (Mimit), more than 400 applications were submitted in this record-breaking timeframe.

A Strategic Lever for Creative Competitiveness

While the measure is intended for all sectors that use design as a competitive advantage, it is the players in the fashion industry who have been the most responsive. The program was designed primarily for them, offering a 10% tax credit on eligible expenses, with a cap set at 2 million euros per company. This tax benefit, which can be used only once, provides significant support for fashion houses that invest heavily in updating their collections and aesthetic innovation.

Toward Expanded Government Support?

In light of this enthusiasm, which reflects the sector’s real needs, Minister Adolfo Urso hailed an “extraordinary result.” For the head of Mimit, this massive uptake confirms that the measure aligns with the expectations of fashion companies, a central pillar of the Italian economy. As funds are being depleted rapidly, the government is already working to identify additional resources in order to expand the number of beneficiaries.

Although the initial budget cap has been reached, the application window remains open. Companies can continue to submit their reservation requests, which will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis in anticipation of the possible release of new funds or a future budget reallocation.
